How Can I Improve My Grades?

Tutoring Articles 9 Comments

improve my gradesEven the most successful students often want to improve their scholastic performance. After all, your grades will help determine what kind of educational and career opportunities will be available to you! With everything that is riding on performing well in the classroom, here are some helpful tips to help you do your best and achieve the success you want.

Organize your life for peak performance.
Being organized is a very simple, but often-overlooked aspect of educational success. Something as simple as an organizer, calendar, or planner can help you keep an eye on homework deadlines, upcoming tests and other important dates. There’s nothing worse than forgetting about a difficult test until the day before- and being forced to stay up all night to prepare for it! In order to succeed as a student at any level, organizational skills are a must.

Good habits help make good grades.
Not all habits are bad; in fact, many habits will help you take your grades to new heights. For instance, having a set time each day to study or work on homework can be helpful for those who are often busy and can get distracted from their schoolwork easily. Study time should be made a priority, just like anything else you do every day! If you need homework help, perhaps you can tailor it to a time and place that you are used to studying at. By choosing a time and place where you can concentrate on your homework, you’re setting yourself up for success.

Find the strategies that work for you.
Everyone learns in different ways. Some students learn from reading, others from listening or taking notes. Only you truly know what methods work best for you. A big part of being a top-notch student is realizing your strengths as a learner, and catering to them. If you are struggling with math problems, perhaps word problems with real-life applications can help you grasp the concepts. If you have a hard time listening to lectures, take good notes so you can review them later at your own pace! No matter what, remember that you’re capable of learning; you just have to find the techniques that work best for you.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
Everyone needs help sometimes- even the best students do! If we could learn everything without help, we wouldn’t need teachers, tutors, or even books! There is no shame in knowing when to ask for help…in fact, being able to ask is often the difference between an average student and a great student! Many times, you may find that your teachers are busy with other students and can’t provide you with all the help you need. Don’t fret- tutoring is a great solution to your troubles! Even if you have a busy schedule and have a hard time meeting with a tutor, online tutoring is a convenient, easily accessible option that can meet the needs of any student. With many students, an online tutoring service like Grades Grow Tutors has meant the difference between frustration and success in the classroom.

Excellence in the classroom can open many doors, if you are willing to work to achieve your goals. Incorporate these tips and soon you’ll be getting higher grades than ever!

Online Tutoring and Home School - Why I Chose Both!

Home SchoolBeing a shy person who is into computers and technology I came across online tutoring by accident one day when surfing the net. At first I was more interested than anything in the whole concept of learning online, how it worked, could it work? And what’s more what could it do for me?

After looking deeper into it, I decided it would actually be the perfect solution for me. I have never mixed with others easily and some in class would act like fools and waste time and their education, which of course brought me down too. The teacher couldn’t carry on with lessons while breaking up giggling and talking kids in the back of the class, the whole thing would disrupt lessons. Although I’m not a geek, my parents and I do take my education seriously and want to get the results I need to be able to move onto getting a college degree. We had already chosen home schooling as a preferred option.

So the whole online tutoring thing looked like just what I needed. I pictured myself getting up in the morning sitting down at my desk in front of my computer and signing into class, checking my schedule and then getting down to lessons. Now I just had to get my parents attention and get them to agree this was the future of learning.

I have a good relationship with my parents and they listened to me and we looked into the various tutoring services together. We came across Grades Grow Tutors and this one caught our attention. They provided one-on-one tutoring and mom and dad were happy because they also offer a parent-tutor conference over the phone. This meant they would be able to keep up with the progress I was making, or not, and it seemed like a good fit with their homeschooling philosophy.

I was pleased to see they supported many subjects, in fact all those found in school and the curriculum would be the same. Physics, Mathematics and English are my favorite subjects, so finding a math tutor, physics tutor and English tutor with Grades Grow Tutors would be no problem. The more we read, the more it made sense, so I signed up for lessons there and then with my parent’s full approval.

The progression I have made in my chosen subjects has been huge. In home school, I study the same hours as I would if I were attending regular school and then add some time in the middle with a different teacher than mom or dad – my online tutors. The whole of this time is just spent working. There are no distractions and stopping and starting while the teacher gets back control of the classroom, so my time isn’t wasted.

The kids I miss having around me in school I see after my home school and virtual lessons and the others of course I don’t miss one bit. If I’m sick and in bed, when I’m feeling a bit better then I can work for just a short time on the laptop in bed and if I’m stuck with anything then I know I can ask and it will be explained until I get it. It’s like having my very own teacher in my home and of course using the internet to get my lessons and work is easy as I have access to all the resources I need to help me learn. Not only do I have a school at home but also one of the biggest libraries in the world, the World Wide Web.

Top 10 Reasons Why Online Tutoring Rocks!

The Top 10, Tutoring Articles 2 Comments

Online Tutoring RocksOnline tutoring provides a wonderful environment for people who are unable to cope-up with the off-line world. So here are 10 reasons for you to evaluate the benefits of online tutoring over the off-line tutoring.

1. Customized Attention: Perhaps the biggest reason in favor of choosing online tutoring is the fact that the education sector on the whole in US is facing ever increasing pressure. With the population rate on the increase, classrooms are packed to capacity and very often children can get left behind. This is not because the teachers do not care, but simply because they have not got the time to spend with individual children. It is thought that every year there is an increase of around 1 million students in grade K-12 and this will keep rising. A quality tutoring service can help to bring your child back up to speed and a tutoring service will match the curriculum your child already knows to ensure there is no confusion.

2. Learning with technology from this century, not the last: With rapid developments in new technologies becoming available, school teachers can often find themselves left behind and somewhat outdated however much they try to catch up. Online tutors can make the most of this technology as after all they are already utilizing a part of it already, the internet, as a way of getting information and material across to the student.

3. I don’t get it, and it’s okay: Some students who are on the shy side are reluctant to put their hands up in the classroom and admit they are not following the lesson. Students who struggle this way benefit drastically in an online classroom as they are one on one with the tutor and do not feel peer pressure.

4. Can you repeat that one more time?: Materials and resources are right there in front of you anytime you want them in the online classroom environment. If you have forgotten instructions then you can re-read online until you are certain of what is needed from you.

5. Can you repeat what we covered two months ago one more time?: For older students who work a full time job to supplement their studies, it can be hard when it comes to studying to focus for a test or an assignment. Libraries are not open 24/7 and so research can become a real chore. With online tutoring, students have a tutor ready to focus on the material for a particular test and assignment, available when the student needs it.

6. How about Physics at 11pm?: You are able to choose when, where, how long and what time you study. This can be useful in a wide variety of situations. You may work and have to fit studying in alongside work hours. If you have children you are able to study after putting them to bed. Studying when you feel most relaxed and at ease will be easier and you will see more progression.

7. Education On Demand: Individuals who are disabled or who have a condition that leaves them uncomfortable or makes attending school or college impossible can study from home in the secure and comfortable environment they are used to.

8. Involved Parenting: Parents can play a major role in their child’s education and become more involved by progress reports that are updated every time your child completes a session. No more waiting for 9 weeks to learn if your child is bordering between grade levels to get them the help to bump them up.

9. Responsible Parenting: Parents will have researched and chosen the online tutoring service for their child to ensure their child is in safe and reliable hands. A Child Protection Policy is a must for any learning environment to whom you wish to trust your child.

10. Save the Best for Last, and Just for Me: All online tutors are highly qualified and will have Masters or PhD in their chosen areas. This means you are getting tuition from the best sources possible. Of course best of all, you also have their undivided attention during your lesson.

How Does Online Tutoring Work?

Tutoring Articles 1 Comment

online tutoringThere are many reasons why you might consider signing up for online tutoring. You might be looking for yourself to study online or you could be a parent considering getting tutoring for your child. Thinking about it and actually going ahead and doing it are two different things! When it comes to something as important as education then of course there is no room for error. You want to go with a company that is reliable and who you feel comfortable with. So how does tutoring online work? How do I go about signing up with a tutoring service? Will the online curriculum be the same used in schools in my state? All these questions and more will be going through your mind for sure. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone could lay out all the answers to your questions for you? Then read on for answers from Grades Grow Tutors perspective.

How does online tutoring work?
Online tutoring works in much the same way as you or your child would learn in school or college. However there is a big advantage when it comes to learning online and this is that instead of being one among many in a class, the tutor will work one on one with you or your child. This is the equivalent of you sitting in a classroom right in front of the tutor and you have their sole attention. Your tutor is available when you need them, 24 hours a day for 7 days a week, when you need them. You or your child will not be left behind if something isn’t understood As you are the sole student the tutor can go over any material as many times as needed to ensure that you get it. The curriculum comes to you, not you to it!

What happens after I sign myself or my child up for tutoring?
Plain and simple, just think of the whole process as being the same as when enrolling in school or college. Your online learning environment will be a virtual classroom with you being the star pupil. After enrolling or signing up you can then choose your session times, dates, the subject or subjects you wish to study or need help with and then the company will get in touch with you to confirm this. Just like the classroom would have a traditional blackboard, there is a white board in the online classroom which is used by both the tutor and the student. However this is not the only means of communication, the tutor and the student talk to each other using VoIP (Voice over IP). This is a built in feature of the online classroom. Visual and audio communication ensures that a visual or auditor learner is able to grasp concepts as they are presented and discussed. Just as security is important in a school or college, the same applies online and the “classroom” will be closed to just the tutor and the student during the lesson.

Is the same curriculum taught online as in school or college?
Whichever subject you are studying online the curriculum used in an online learning environment will closely match the curriculum used in your state or district. If you or your child is studying material which may have been used previously in the classroom, then an initial assessment will be given. This will ensure that the same information will not be gone over again, and will allow the teacher to get to know you or your child better and will also determine the starting point from where the tutoring will begin.

Regardless of who you choose, method of communication, quality of tutors, security, and curriculum guidelines are important factors you should incorporate in your decision.
